VTA Conference
Just back from a lovely weekend at the Virgina Theatre Association Conference. I was lucky enough to meet a cast of students doing my play Alice, another group who had done Emotional Baggage last year, and a group of my playwriting students. They were all so sweet!! It was great to be able to see one of my plays - that’s the one thing that I wish I could do more of.
I liked seeing a different interpertation of Alice - the school used a lot of mask and blacklight. My favourite thing they did was to create a human flowerbed of sorts for Alice to fall asleep on and wake up in.
The school who did Emotional Baggage told me that they had used live musicians for the play (there is no dialogue in the play - it’s all action) and made them a part of the setting. I love that idea.
The conference itself was a frenzy of plays. Interesting ones, too. A Caryl Churchill, a Shaw, Blood Wedding by Frederico Garcia Lorca, along with a number of original works. Alan Haehnel had four plays performed. Go Alan!!!
